Not that it isn't already out there but.. I would like to "officially" announce that I won the 2018 Composers Prize from the National Commission for Culture and the Arts for my piece "ANIMA" (Standard Full Orchestra). There are no words that can be written that can describe how I feel save only the ones that I can, in all sincerity, say in simple words: I am immensely honored.
Though I'm not the only young composer in this country, nor am I the best one for certain, I would spend the rest of
my years to deserve this award in particular, and all other future decorations of such type. As I have much to learn as
a composer and artist, it is because of projects like this one that one is motivated to become BETTER at what one does.
And it has NEVER been about the plaque, nor the prize, nor the publicity. To me it was ALWAYS about the ART and its ability to inspire change and/or reflect reality of our present world.
Thank you to my family, and to my friends for the constant support. My composition mentors, Eric Yuzon, Ramon P. Santos, Chino Toledo, not to mention the brief but SUBSTANTIAL class with Ryan Cayabyab Myran Etorsaand my brief one one with Michael Dadap. And other musicians and teachers from whom I learned a lot, not only about music but of life, Ma'am Elizabeth Susan Vista-Suarez,Sir Mark Ian Caballes, Sir Nathaniel Bicoy, Ma'am Mathilda Ferdinand Limbaga Erojo, Sir Berneval Montes. And many others, you know who you are.
Congrats Timothy Pacpaco, 2016 NCCA Composers Prize winner, for the premiere of your stunningly poignant piece, Pagtangis ng Kahapon. Details of the premiere of ANIMA for orchestra to follow. Encouraging other young composers to submit for 2020! More composers, more music, more life!
P.S. I rarely talk, pero kung maka sulat pud, pirting taasa. k bye
