Ordinary people laugh while creative artists wallow in the shadow of despair; If that is how you picture the scenario then you tongue inas have not even the slightest idea how lucky you are to at least have a few who insist on advancing a high standard of beauty and judgement. My good sirs and madams, you are not the ones laughing. We are. It's the other way around. It is absolutely not our problem if only 1 out of 1,999 appreciates our art. It's your loss. For what kind of citizens are those who think Twilight is a great novel? or Ina, Kapatid, Anak has a touching story? Or Nora Aunor is a righteous National Artist for that matter?
Too elitist you say? I'd rather be accused of that rather than have a dubious taste in everything. For chrisake look around us (assuming your in Manila), Exclude Rockwell or Global City and we are surrounded by filth. This is a country who for years are deprived of genuine aesthetic experience, thus the executive decisions made are only of small scales and profit driven.
Then fly to Europe. Now I'm not saying that they should pose as examples but countries of this continent are roaring with the arts and culture. Are the streets of Europe as filthy and as overcrowded as Manila?
Bahala ka jan wala ka pa ring pera. Basta happy ka.
Right. Because money is the most important thing in the world. And so long as the good-cultured citizens are kept at a minimum number we are bound as a nation to endless traffics, 9 babies under unstable roofs, and sidewalks made of trash.
Please read a book about art. The hell please read any good book for that matter. Then perhaps you will realize the level of stupidity you raised with your condescending question.
